Google Cafine | Google Cafine New Search Engine | Syed Alaudeen Seo Executive

Google has gone ahead and done what search marketers could only have previously dreamed about: given us an advance preview of search engine update "Caffeine."

What is different between the old version of Google (what we currently see at www.google.com) and this new "Google Caffeine" version of Google? Some are saying that this new version is much faster than the older version of Google

Google Cafine New Search Engine

New Google is FAST: It often doubled the speed of Google classic.

New Google relies more on keywords: SEO professionals, your job just got a lot harder. The algorithm’s definitely different. It has more reliance on keyword strings to produce better results.

Search is moving into real-time: Being able to get info on breaking events is clearly a priority for Google and Bing. With both Twitter (Twitter) and Facebook (Facebook) launching real-time search engines, they needed to respond.

It’s partially a response to Bing: At least, that’s how we feel. This new search has a focus on increasing speed, relevancy, accuracy, and the index volume, things that Microsoft really hit on when it released Bing. It feels as if Google “Caffeine” is meant to shore up any deficiencies it may have when compared to Microsoft’s offering, though it’s been in the works long before Bing launched.

Microsoft, Yahoo! Change Search Landscape

Yahoo! and Microsoft announced an agreement that will improve the Web search experience for users andadvertisers, and deliver sustained innovation to the industry. In simple terms, Microsoft will now power Yahoo! search while Yahoo! will become the exclusive worldwide relationship sales force for both companies' premium search advertisers.

For Web users and advertisers, this deal will accelerate the pace and breadth of innovation by combining both companies' complementary strengths and search platforms into a market competitor with the scale to fuel sustained development in search and search advertising. Users will find what they care about faster and with more personal relevance. Microsoft's competitive search platforms will lead to more value for advertisers, better results for web publishers, and increased innovation and efficiency across the Internet.

Under this agreement, Yahoo! will focus on its core business of providing consumers with great experiences with the world's favorite online destinations and Web products.

"This agreement comes with boatloads of value for Yahoo!, our users, and the industry. And I believe it establishes the foundation for a new era of Internet innovation and development," said Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz. "Users will continue to experience search as a vital part of their Yahoo! experiences and will enjoy increased innovation thanks to the scale and resources this deal provides. Advertisers will also benefit from scale and enjoy greater ease of use and efficiencies working with a single platform and sales team for premium advertisers. Finally, this deal will help us increase our investments in priority areas in winning audience properties, display advertising capabilities, and mobile experiences."

Providing a viable alternative to advertisers, this deal will combine Yahoo! and Microsoft search marketplaces so that advertisers no longer have to rely on one company that dominates more than 70 percent of all search. With the addition of Yahoo!'s search volume, Microsoft will achieve the size and scale required to unleash competition and innovation in the market, for consumers as well as advertisers.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said the agreement will provide Microsoft's search engine, Bing, the scale necessary to more effectively compete, attracting more users and advertisers, which in turn will lead to more relevant ads and search results.

"Through this agreement with Yahoo!, we will create more innovation in search, better value for advertisers, and real consumer choice in a market currently dominated by a single company," said Ballmer. "Success in search requires both innovation and scale. With our new Bing search platform, we've created breakthrough innovation and features. This agreement with Yahoo! will provide the scale we need to deliver even more rapid advances in relevancy and usefulness. Microsoft and Yahoo! know there's so much more that search could be. This agreement gives us the scale and resources to create the future of search."

"This deal fits the long-term strategic direction of Yahoo! to remain the world's leading online media company and Carol Bartz has the full and unanimous support of the Yahoo! Board behind this deal," said Roy Bostock, chairman, Yahoo! Inc. "This is a significant opportunity for us. Microsoft is an industry innovator in search, and it is a great opportunity for us to focus our investments in other areas critical to our future."

Branding a Produt

Marketing is a set of activities with the overall goal of creating and nurturing customer relationships. As such it involves decisions in four major areas :

1. The product/service -- what will best meet the needs of my customers? What are my customers really purchasing?

2. Distribution -- how can I make it easy for my customers to purchase the product? Do I need the help of other firms for location, service, customization, systems integration, etc?

3. Promotion and communication -- how can I let my customers and prospect know about the value of the product/service? How can I create an information path for them to communicate with me?

4. Price -- what price is appropriate for the product -- competitive in the market, reflective of the quality and perception of the product, acceptable to the customer and suitable for my business needs?

Branding is a subset primarily of promotion. The concept is to first, understand what the essential, core value is that your customers hold for your product category. You then want to create/modify your product to best deliver on that core value and then promote it such that the consumer intimately associates -- believes -- that your product best delivers the value.

Social Media Metrics

Measuring Social Media Marketing

There are essentially three areas that should be measured in any good Social Media Marketing campaign: social media interaction, search saturation, and referral traffic (can include goal conversion/user behavior)

Social Media Interaction

Social media interaction measures how users interact with a company's social media profiles. This includes number of friends, comments, ratings, sent messages, and views. Social interaction can be weighted where a direct question about the product gets more weight than a "thanks for the add" comment. Social media interaction metrics will provide an idea of the popularity of a company's profiles and pages.

Search Saturation

Search saturation measures online visibility of a company’s social media sites. At Anvil, we measure search saturation metrics by determining online visibility percentage of the social media sites for targeted keywords. Search saturation metrics will help identify which sites need to be further optimized for keywords and which sites are ranking well.

Referral Traffic

Referral traffic is measured using Analytics. Traffic should be analyzed to monitor the behavior of new and existing traffic. A separate social media profile should also be created to measure goal conversions and track user behavior.

Branding - Importance of Branding a Product

Branding and Marketing

Marketing is the overall umbrella, so to speak, with branding being part of the mix.

Firstly, you create a brand (name, logo, treatment) and you standardize it. To protect it,you should trademark it. Initially, any and all materials or applications you create with this brand, you need to make sure it is consistent in look/feel/color, etc....so that you are not only re-enforcing the trademark but you are also establishing awareness among your customers/ clients/ consumers.

Tools - advertising in print, internet, TV, collateral materials, etc. It just depends on on
your market, target demographic, objectives, strategies and product.

Marketing is the entire process of developing, promoting and selling products or services.
Branding is a component of marketing.

Brands are unique and differentiated sets of associations that create relationships with
intended targets. Why are they important to customers and prospects?

-They create convenient “shortcuts” to decision making.
-They create expectations about the product and service experience.
-They create expectations about quality about quality and value.
-They help manage uncertainty by ensuring the predictability of outcomes.
-They help users express themselves.
-They are vehicles through which users align themselves with ideas, principles, values and

benefits that are important to them.

A Brand is not advertising, a logo or a positioning line (“Just Do It”, for example). It is
more than just a product name. A Brand is a covenant with the customer. This covenant must
convey a series of expectations and a predictability which, when consistently met, sets up
the Character and Integrity of the Brand. A Brand consists of three parts:

1. Physical Attributes.
2. Style.
3. Character.

Social Media More Difficult in B2B Than B2C - Discussion

Social Media Marketing Difficult In B2B website Compare To B2C Website :

The interesting thing is that in the B2B space, we have "talents" or highly experienced, skillful and talented professionals who are individuals who own their human capital.

So these talented folks could work in networks that exist BETWEEN corporations. In fact, this is what the Linux developers are doing, and there are over 10,000 of them (if I remember correctly).

Am not sure if such networks can be called "social media" or should be more accurately called "socio-productive media" since they DO create wealth (although only a few companies are positioned and structured to benefit from this wealth, such as Redhat).

There's also a distinction between B2C vs B2B in that consumers create objects for consumption while businesses usually create "capital goods" which are then USED to produce (consumer) value.

This doesn't mean "digital consumer goods" are less valuable. Just look at teen millionaire Ashley Qualls' Whateverlife.com!

As to whether the basis for Social Media is as effective or more difficult to manage in the B2B space, it depends on how the company leading the effort can convince participating contributors of what they stand to gain if they participate.

B2c and B2B Marketing

Google Analytics . What is a length of visit and depth of visit?

Defination :

*Length of Visit: amount of time spend on a site during a visit.
*Depth of Visit: amount of pages viewed on a site during a visit.

You can easily track both of these metrics for your site (and various visitor segments) with a web analytics package such as Google Analytics (which is free). Install and configuration for basic use is very straightforward.

Length and depth of visit are two useful metrics to track but aren't generally goals in themselves. I would rather someone paid a short visit to my site and filled out a contact form than have them interact with it for an hour and leave without me ever knowing who they were.

You need to carefully define the purpose of your site and figure out what a successful visitor interaction (goal) is. This could be:
A sale.
A capture of contact info.
A white paper download.
A signup or account creation.

Analytics packages allow you to define and demarcate these critical goals and the funnels or paths that lead to them through your site. This allows you to fine-tune the process from first contact to the generation of new or repeat business.

Let me Know ? Now days Google display a Arrow mark ( Both upper and Lower ) and comment option during searching any Keyword .( Every one knows well)

My Doubts ::

1)By using a upper arrow mark last site come to first . ( so first diplaying site goes to last)
2)By using this google track our site ?
3)Comment section (If our competitor give a wrong comment even though .they access . so our site get wrong impression )
4)One More Option Close option . When we close that site ( during display in google site are disappeared)
5)I like to know By using this trend google give any impression (or ) track our site in special way ?
6)In Future those Option are useful for any tracking ?

Please suggest If know mean

Does Google pay any attention to a top level domain when ranking websites? Please Give your Suggestion

When talking about regionally specific TLDs, the answer is yes of course. Like we have
already agreed, a country code top level domain is the most effective tool for Geo targeting.

But what about non-country-specific domains? Do they matter with Google Algorithm?

Quite an easy question and yet there is no definitive answer.

Historically, a generic top level domain (a wiki link) shows which type of organization a website belongs to:

* .com = ‘commercial’ (an open TLD)
* .edu = ‘educational’ (limited)
* .gov = ‘governmental’ (limited)
* .mil = ‘military’ (limited)
* .org = ‘(non-profit) organization’ (an open TLD)
* .name = ‘individuals, by name’ (an open TLD)
* .net = ‘network’ (an open TLD)
* .biz = ‘business’ (an open TLD), etc

Let me know . By choosing a domain which may be best , bussiness targeted and seo friendly . up to my point .com and .net is best . Please give u r suggestion based on domain and seo point of view (Google Search engine)

Check and Promote U Your Site Based On SEO Guide Lines

1. Find and Fix Dead Links

Finding dead links on a website can be time-consuming and annoying if you try to do it manually. Dead-Links.com is a free online tool that will crawl your website and search for dead links. Once you know where the dead links are, you can easily correct them.

2. Check for Web Crawl Errors in Google Webmaster Tools

Another way to identify broken links is to login to Google Webmaster Tools and check the crawl errors that are listed. You will see a list of URLs that the Googlebot was not able to find on your site.

3. Check for Missing Title Tags

The title tag of a page is of course one of the most important on-page factors for search engine rankings. Every page on your site should have a unique and descriptive title. If you have a relatively small website, you can easily check for this manually. SEO Book had a free tool available that did this manually, but it has been blocked by Google. Google Webmaster Tools will provide you with this information under “Diagnostics” and “Content Analysis.” WordPress users can install the All-In-One SEO Pack plugin to control page titles throughout the website or blog and ensure that each page/post has a proper title.

4. Find Your Most Productive Search Phrases

Google Webmaster Tools provides some valuable information about your site’s rankings and what phrases searchers are using to find you. Under “Statistics” click on “search queries” and you will see the top 20 search queries in which your site is appearing. This information may help you to find a few phrases for which you didn’t even realize you were ranking well. In this case, you may be able to increase those rankings even more by optimizing your site or a specific page to specifically target that search phrase.

On the right side of the screen you will also see the top 20 queries that were used to actually reach your site. This shows what people are clicking as opposed to simply where you are ranking. On both of these lists, when you see specific queries you may know exactly which page on your site it is referencing. It’s not a bad idea to go to those pages and double check the meta descriptions to be sure that they do an effective job of telling potential visitors what the page is about and enticing them to click through from the SERPs.

5. Add “nofollow” Tags As Needed

Any time you link out to another website that you don’t want to be followed by search engines you can use a nofollow tag on the link. While there is no need to use nofollow on most links from your website or blog, they can be used for links to sites that don’t need your link juice, such as Google, Yahoo, etc. Most bloggers use NoFollow on links to FeedBurner for RSS and email subscriptions.

Additionally, you can also use nofollow tags on internal links to somewhat control how PageRank is passed throughout your site . For example, you will see a lot of website owners and bloggers that use nofollow tags on links to a contact page, since there is no need for the contact page to rank well. For more information about using nofollow on internal links, see Using NoFollow to Control PageRank Flow from SearchNewz.

From time-to-time it’s helpful to go through your site and see where it might be helpful to add nofollow tags. An easy way to do this is by using the NoDoFollow add-on for Firefox (there are several similar add-ons as well) which will show all nofollow links in pink/red as you are surfing.

6. Look for Opportunities to Add Internal Links

Internal links within your website can help to tell search engines which pages are most important. It can potentially help your rankings to add internal links to those pages that you would like to rank higher. If your website continually has new content added (such as with blogs) there will always be opportunities to improve internal linking. Older pages/posts may be well-suited to link to a page that hadn’t yet been created at the time when it was published.

7. Check Your Search Traffic Trends

If your website is suffering from falling search traffic it is obviously helpful to know some information about the trends. Most of us check daily/weekly stats on a regular basis, but longer-term trends aren’t always examined. Using Google Analytics, or a similar program, analyze your search traffic over a span of several months. What are the general trends? Which pages have increased search traffic? Which pages have decreased search traffic? You may be able to identify some problems that need to be addressed or some opportunities that can be taken advantage of by knowing a little bit more about the trends.

8. Check Your Keyword Density

What words and phrases are you targeting with your website? Do they appear on you page more than other words? The keyword density tool from TrafficZap will allow you to enter a URL and it will produce a report of the words and phrases with the most density on the page.

9. Test Your Page from a Spider’s Point-of-View

A spider simulator can help you to quickly see how a search engines sees your page. Summit Media has a nice, free spider simulator that will check several factors and provide you with a brief report. The report may help you to identify some simple improvements that can be made.

10. Check Your Rankings

One of the obvious things that you’ll want to check is your search engine rankings for your targeted keywords or phrases. Mike’s Marketing Tools has a nice rankings checker that will allow you to enter a URL and a search phrase and it will show you where you rank in the leading search engines.

Off page Optimization Technique and Methods

Off-page Technique ::

Link Popularity is an important factor, used by almost all of major search engines to rank websites. Link popularity can be increased by link exchange or acquiring one-way incoming links.

Since link popularity is an important factor in determining search engine ranking, plan it carefully. Don't just exchange links indiscriminately, link to web pages that are similar to your niche. Also have your incoming text links centered on your key phrase.

It is not only the quantity of links that counts, but also the quality of the links. So, you will be better off with a few links from good quality web pages (those that ranked high by the search engines) than many links from low-ranked web pages.

How to acquire one-way incoming links? You could either purchase them or do it the organic way – write articles related to your niche and post them at article directories that command high web traffic.

Search engine rankings are extremely important for a successful Internet marketing campaign. Get your basic SEO right. Try the steps listed above. Good search engine ranking does not happen overnight. Be patient. Depending on the competitiveness of your key phrases it could anywhere between 3 to 6 months, in some cases a year, for your web pages to rank high at the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.

* Reciprocal link building - 2way and 3way links
* Link Popularity through one way links

On Page optimization Techniques and Methods

On-page Techniques

1. Use text not graphics for your web design. Web pages that are loaded with graphics are not friendly to search engines' crawlers. Search engines classify and rank pages by text, not graphics.

2. Build your web page content around specific key phrases. Your web pages must have specific themes. It would be very difficult to rank high for generic terms. Carefully research and select 2 or 3 word phrases pertaining to your niche to optimize. Don't just optimize your home page. Work on your sub pages. You want as many pages as possible to be indexed and ranked well.

3. Organize your website internal links. You want all your web pages to be crawled and indexed by the search engines. You want to make it easy for crawlers to find your internal pages. It is best to include text links to these pages from your home page, and to cross-link all your web pages.

If your navigational system uses Java-script or images, then you have to add text links at the top or bottom of your web pages to make sure that the crawlers follow all the links. Double-check all your links to verify they are working.

4. Include your key phrases at the following places…

a. URL and file names. The URL and file names are important indicators to search engines. It is good SEO practice to put your key phrases either in your main domain name or in your file names.

b. Title and description tags. Your title text is displayed in the blue line at the top of your browser. It is located in the head section of the html document. Include your key phrase in your title tag.
Description tags are not visible to website visitors. Search engines often display them as text form to give searchers a cursory glance of your web pages is. Your description tags should be compelling to pull in visitors. It should contain your key phrase.

c. Headlines and subheadlines. Place your headlines at the top of your web pages page. Your headline and subheadline texts should be enclosed with special header tags such as h1, h2, h3.

d. Body Text of web page. Your key phrase should appear in the first paragraph, center and the last paragraph of your body text.

e. Anchor text. These are your navigational links, incoming and outgoing links of your web pages.

Important note: Don't use the same key phrase in your URL, filenames, title tags, description tags, headlines, body text and text links. Search engines may penalize you for keyword spamming. Use variations of your key phrase or terms related to it.

5. Add fresh content to your website regularly. Both search crawlers and your website visitors feed on content. Web pages with fresh informative content tends to be bookmarked. If you add fresh content regularly, other webmasters would naturally link to your web pages.

5 Mistake Can Kill Your SEO Process

The whole SEO process can be divided among three major parts i.e.Crawlabilty, Content and Links. These three things are pillars of Search Engine Optimization and so to your site's success path.First keep this thing in your mind that Search Engine Spiders are not all that smart. If a spider can't find content (suppose there is a broken link, for example), it's programmed to end what it's doing and wouldn't go look around for that great article you wrote. It's going to move on to the subsequent link and keep crawling, crawling, and crawling.

That's what it does. So, it's obvious that if a spider can't access your content then your content will not get indexed and so will never be found on search engines. That's why crawlability is the basic and most important component of SEO and we will highlight these crawlabilty issues.

1) Screwing up Robots.txt file.

Make sure your text is like the one written as

User-agent:* Disallow:

It should not be like the one written as: User-agent:* Disallow: /

This mistake can drop your organic rankings drastically.

2) Too many variables or parameters in your URLs

Although Search Engines are getting better and better in means of
crawling long and ugly looking links but still they don't like them.
Short URL's also do get clicked more often in the result pages and
they are good for crawlabilty and clickabilty.

3) Session ID's in your URL's

Search Engines straight away do not like session ID's in URL's. If you are using Session ID's then just store them in cookies rather than including them in your URL's. Session ID's can cause a single page content to be visible at multiple URL's and thus obstructing the SERP's.

4) Your site suffers from code bloat

Even though Spiders are normally good at sorting out code from content, but that doesn't mean you should make it more complex by having so much code that the content is tough to find.

5) Your navigation and internal linking

Designers and developers can be pretty creative while designing a web site but this creativity may come in the way Search Engine Crawlers.Your site's navigation build in complicated DHTML, java script code, flash or Ajax based can stop a crawler in its track.

Though crawlers have become advanced that they can crawl these entirethings but why take a chance.Crawlability is often ignored in the nameof creativity and coding, but it's as vital to your SEO efforts ascontent development, link building, and any other element of the SEO
Strategy.

Can you write HTML code by hand?

A. Yes I can. I do use some Macromedia dream wever (or) microsoft front page editor and then modify the code by hand as needed.

Could you briefly explain the PageRank algorithm?

A. In simple terms, Google uses the gross number of inbound links to a page to determine how important the page is. This "pagerank" has little to do with actual search results but can make a difference on user behavior.

Have you created any SEO tools either from scratch or pieced together from others?

A. No, I do make use of many tools already available on the internet as well as SEO programs that I have purchased.

What do you think of PageRank?

A. In relation to SEO projects, it is relatively unimportant but can give an indication of how much work needs to be done in gaining inbound links.

What do you think of using XML sitemaps?

A. I use them. They are an additional tool to help the search engines when they crawl a site. There is no requirement for any sitemap and your pages will get indexed without them if you pay close attention to navigation within your site.

What SEO tools do you regularly use?

A. Keyword analysis tools, keyword density tools, index checking, backlink checking, wordprocessor to check spelling and grammar, HTML validation and others.

Under what circumstances would you look to exclude pages from search engines using robots.txt vs meta robots tag?

A. Usually I would use the robots.txt to keep a search engine from indexing an entire directory on a site. This would often be directories dealing with admin functions or directories that only contain script or image libraries.

What areas do you think are currently the most important in organically ranking a site?

A. Text on page! Search engines utilize text and only text in providing search results. That text is found in many place including the URL and title of your pages as well as the visible text you place on your pages.

Do you have experience in copywriting and can you provide some writing samples?

A. My experience in "copywriting" is limited to my site at www.afreshpath.com. It is a blog about outdoor recreation in Nevada and so far is placing well in search results.

Have you ever had something you've written reach the front-page of Digg? Sphinn? Or be Stumbled?

A. Not yet! I am not particularly worried about it but I do try to write in such a way that others would be inticed to submit my articles.

Explain to me what META tags matter in today's world.

A. The most important META tag for SEO is your page description. Search engines do make use of this tag but it does not outweigh the title or visible text. The META keywords tag is not much of a factor in the major search engines but should not be overlooked.

Explain various steps that you would take to optimize a website?

A. 1. Interview website owner or webmaster to get a good grasp of the site's purpose and goals.
2. Perform a keyword analysis to find best performing keywords that should be used for that site and for individual pages of the site
3. Analyze site content to determine usage of relavant keywords and phrases. This includes visible text as well at titles, META tags, and "alt" attributes.
4. Examine site navigation
5. Determine the existence of robots.txt and sitemap and examine those for effectivenes.
6. Make recommendations for changes needed for the site and each individual page.

If the company whose site you've been workind for has decided to move all of its content to a new domain, what steps would you take?
A. I would update the old site with permanent redirects to to new page for every page. Then I would attempt to remove old content from the major search engines to avoid duplicate content issues.

Rate from 1 to 10, tell me the most important "on page" elements

A. 1 issue is visible text being relevant to expected search terms.
2 would then be page titles
3 is navigation and "alt" attributes for navigation items and link text.
4 would be "alt" attributes for images and other media presented on pages.

What do you think about link buying?

A. I discourage the practice for the most part. There are more effective means of paid marketing. One exception would be purchasing listings in highly reputable directories such as Yahoo directory.

What is Latent Semantic Analysis (LSI Indexing)?

A. LSI indexing ries to overcome the limitations of "literal" search term matching . For example, if someone is searching for "hiking in Norhter Nevada" a literal search would only match the words used without taking into account words such as "hike", "hiked". LSI can give more relevant results because it does take word usage and context into account determining what a page is "about" rather than a strict reliance on literal wording.

What is Phrase Based Indexing and Retrieval and what roles does it play?

A. In regards to search results, it is a method that search engines such as google use to determine relevance of a page based on phrases acutally used in a document. For example, if you have a page instructing people on wildlife photography, the search engine would reasonably expect to see terms and phrases such as "selecting a camera", "appraoching wildlife", and "low light photo conditions". Related phrases will add to the relevance of a page where unrelated phrases will reduce the relevance of a page. This is one technique that Google is using to weed out "spam" sites.

What is the difference between SEO and SEM?

A. Seo is search engine optimization and is the process you use in getting your pages to place well on search results. SEM is search engine marketing and involves purchasing advertising space on search result pages. Sponsored listings are SEM. Both are related though! When using Google Adwords, the better you optimize your pages for search, the less you will be paying for your selected keywords in the PPC campaign and the better placment your ads will get.

What kind of strategies do you normally implement for backlinks?

A. I check the competitors backlinks to find hightly relevant sites and request a link from them. If reciprocal linking is required, I may be able to place a lik back to them in a relevant portion of a page on the site but if not, I will state so and may not gain that link. Another method I use is to submit press releases to relevant media.

What role does social media play in an SEO strategy?

A. Social media such as social networking sites and news sites can provide for viral marketing. Viral marketing has proven to be powerful if the content of a site is appealing.

What things wouldn't you to do increase rankings because the risk of penalty is too high
A. I would avoid any site with the appearance of a link farm. I would also avoid any "spam" practice such as unsolicited email campaigns, certain affiliate advertising sites, sites that re-direct visitors to your site, and anything resembling the practices of Zango.

Why might you want to use nofollow on an internal link?

A. Many sites have shoping carts and member login or logout links. This type of link is simply an administrative function and does nothig to contribute to site content. The search engine does not need to index those pages.

Are you familiar with web analytics and what packages are your familiar with?

A. Yes I am and the tool I use most frequently is Google's webmaster tools. I also use the available Yahoo hosting tools for my own sites. Knowing what search terms your visitors are actually using to find your site as well as where those visitors are coming from will help refine SEO efforts. The amount of time each visitor spends on your site will help in determining if content changes are needed.

From an analytics perspective, what is different between a user from organic search results vs. a type-in user?

A A user coming into your site from an organic search usually has never visited your site before or is performing a general search for a specific product or topic. These visitors are trying to find the site that most suits thier needs. A "type-in" user is specifally interested in your website. They may have found your URL in print advertising or from a friend. Often, these users are familiar with what you are offering and are coming back to your site as a repeat visitor.

How do you evaluate whether an SEO campaign is working?

A. The main indicator is to perform a search on all major search engines using the keywords/ keyphrases I am optimizing for. An analysis of those results will help to determine if optimization has gained in the results or lost ground. This analysis should be done over time as each search engine will update and index on a varying schedule. Another aspect is to use website statistics to determine where traffic is originating.

What does competitive analysis mean to you and what techniques do you use?

A. Competitive analysis means taking a close look at websites that rank highly in search results and comparing those sites to the one you are optimizing. They have employed methods that are working and are a valuable source for ideas.

If you've done 6 months of SEO for a site and yet there haven't been any improvements, how would you go about diagnosing the problem?

A. I might approach the problem as if it were an entirely new project. Again taking a look at the keywords and phrases that I am attempting to optimize for and again taking a close inspection of top ranking competition. If the site is indexed and does show up in the irst 10 pages of a search but on in the top three, I would look into modification of major areas such as page titles, on page text, and page descriptions. If the site is not yet indexed or has been dropped from an index, there are major problems and the site may require a total re-work and re-submission.

How many target keywords should a site have?
A. I advise not more than three or four well related keyword phrases. This allows for more effective optimization.

You hear a rumor that Google is weighting the HTML LAYER tag very heavily in ranking the relevance of its results - how does this affect your work?
A. It doesn't unless the rumor proves to be fact. Yes, I check on the rumor but as with all rumors, it can have detrimental effects if you "jump on the band wagon" and it proves to be just a rumor with no basis in fact.

Why does Google rank Wikipedia for so many topics?
A. Wikipedia is an established authority! As such, it is referenced by huge numbers of other documents with relevant text associated with links back to Wikipedia.
